Guide to Toulouse Blagnac Airport (TLS / LFBO)
Updated Wednesday 5th November, 2008
Guide originally by Danny Hill, with spots 3 and 4 added by Alister Read.
Toulouse Blagnac is quite a small regional airport in the south of France which offers a number of french regional flights with the odd international scheduled and charter flight. The airports main claim to fame though is of course that of being home to Airbus and therefore the only place to regularly see the A380 for at least the next year or so. There are also regular test flights by the many aircraft being built on the site. Airbus currently build all A320's and all A330 / A340 family aircraft at Toulouse together with the A380. It comes as no surprise that these are the main interest for most people on a trip to Toulouse.
Lets not forget that the airport is also the home of regional aircraft giant ATR, so some interesting turboprop aircraft can crop up from time to time, although these seem to be painted at the very last minute unlike the airbus examples which are painted at least a few weeks before delivery.
The airport has two close parrallel runways 14L / 34R and 14R / 34L. All Airbus factory aircraft use 14R / 34L as this is the closest to the factory area and the one the A380 made its first flight from. Scheduled flights use both runways, although they seem to mainly depart on 14L / 34R which is closest to the terminal area.
I was pleasantly surprised at the good photos to be had at Toulouse as I was expecting a rather difficult time getting photos before our visit, though there are a few nice spots. All spots though are at the North end of the airfield.

Spot A - Small Disused Building
A small disused building allows you to get up above the fence and offers a very good view of 14L / 34R, with a good although little distant view of 14R / 34L. You are very close to aircraft taxiing out to 14L and so nothing will be missed on this runway. This is a great spot for the morning until about 1100 when the sun works around and you need to move across the other side.

Spot B - Large Hill
Theres a huge hill on the Airbus side of the airfield that overlooks the end of 14R. This offers great views of aircraft arriving or departing on 14R, but 14L / 34R tends to be very distant. The spot is also very difficult if 34L is in use as landing aircraft will have vacated a fair way down and departing aircraft are usually up a long way before this spot.

Spot C - Car Park
This is a spot south of the airport, with good views of arrivals on 32R and 32L (which is the Airbus runway). Planes landing will be almost overhead, with good landing shots to be had of Airbus movements with the Airbus runway being directly in line with this spot. The Airbus ramp is also clearly visible, with all Airbus movements and taxing easy to document. The spot is difficult though if planes are taking off from either 14L or 14R, as planes are often a long way up by the time they reach this spot.

Spot D - Airport Café
Inside the airport, on floor two, a café offers a viewing deck in front of it, where the public are welcomed to sit and watch arrivals and taxiing to the terminal. Good views are also to be had of the cargo ramp and Airbus Industries and runway in the distance. Even a camera with a poor zoom can get good shots, as you are very close to the commercial aviation ramp.
