Dublin is Ireland's biggest airport by far with annual passengers of around 18 million, the airport receives a wide range of operators from long haul American carriers to European low costs. Daily services include American Airlines, Delta Airlines & Continental Airlines. Seasonal operators are US Airways, Air Transat & Air Canada. On the low cost front the airport is of course a hub for both Ryanair and Aer Lingus, with a steady stream of movements throughout the day; others include Germanwings & Hapag Lloyd Express. The airport receives extensive charter traffic all year round as well as steady biz jet movements. Cargo traffic includes Air France Cargo 747-, DHL, TNT A300F's. The airport offers a number of great vantage points, though none of these are official.

Movements

A sample of the upcoming movements for Dublin.

We do not current have any movements for Dublin Airport.

Photo Spot Spot A - Runway 28 entry point

This is the most popular spot situated parallel to the entry of runway 28,it is a car lay-by that offers great views of all movements of runway 10/28 depending on which is in use aircraft either line up here or from this spot aircraft are just airborne, there are no charges to park here.
A 300mm lens will be plenty here,a decent pair of binoculars will be needed to read regs of aircaft parked on the apron on the other side of the airfield not on stand.Due to a new higher fence being built in front of this spot(which curiously drops down 2 feet after the lay-by),photos from this spot will have a big chunk of fence in them, all credit should go to the airport authority for that, they really ruined a good spot. However if spotting is of only interest then this spot is still the best.

Photo Spot Spot B - Runway 10 entry point

This spot is situated at the other end of the runway, looking over the entry point of runway 10,it offers good shots of landing & departing aircraft, there is no offical car parking here, the spot is a grass mound next to an entrance to an industrial estate, again there are no charges to view aircraft.

Photo Spot Spot C - The Eating Place

Located on the Mezzanine. You will be looking through glass here but a decent view of both main runways is available.

Photo Spot Spot D - Threshhold of Runway 16

Unfortunately this runway is rarely in use except when the winds are blowing strongly from a southerly direction or there is work scheduled on 28/10 (mainly at night) but this is a great spot for photos of arriving and departing aircraft. Again a car is needed to access.

Viewing from the airport is very restricted - just back from watching the arrivals for the UEFA cup final - the only viewing from the terminal is at the restaurant 'the eating place' if you purchase food and drink the staff seem pretty relaxed to let you spot.
A better option is if you have a boarding card go down to departures and gates around 310 etc offer views of the Aer Lingus long haul and the runway - from the Ryanair gates 102 etc you can check on the TNT/DHL freighters and still get good views of landing aircraft.

HI,

With the Uefa Cup final being played in Dublin and both final teams being from Portugal, hoping and expecting some decent charter flights...anyone know of where we can get a list and if the airport is making any viewing changes due to the high number of spotters expected in dublin?

Thanks

on arrival from uk is there any viewing areas landside of terminals like car parks etc

Terminal 2 at Dublin is now open and handles all the US airlines, Aer Lingus and Etihad. There are no views of the ramp from the terminal building until you pass through security. Once there, there is an area beside the Chocolate Bar where an arial view of the Eastern side of the terminal can be seen however it seems to be only shorthaul Aer Lingus aircraft that use the closest stands. A view of the cargo ramp can also be seen but it is slightly blocked by the cargo building. The very end of the pier is close to the treshhold of runway 28 so good shots can be taken of arriving and departing aircraft through glass.

Aer Lingus has flown 747's into Dublin Airport. One was named St Patrick indeed. 747 freighters and possibly others still land at Dublin.
