Birmingham is like many of the UK's regionals home to the odd based charter, a couple of regional carriers and of course a low cost carrier. BA have now ceased operations from Birmingham with the take over of BA connect by Flybe. Flybe though do offer flights to a number of destinations using Dash 8 Q400's and an ERJ-195 based at the airport.

Birmingham is perhaps best though for the few Asian carriers it receives. Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and PIA are visitors along with Air India, other long haul routes operated by Emirates, Continental and Air Transat.

Photography at BHX perhaps isn't as good as it used to be. The area behind the Tristar Hotel used to be the prime location, it being a crash gate area meant you could park there for free as well. However this was closed off early in 2003 and is no longer accessible, meaning BHX has only 1 photo spot that I know of.

New Service
- New 6 x weekly service to Billund commences using ERJ-145 aircraft. Operates daily except Sat. Flight nos. BMI1451/1452. Arrival and departure times vary.

Photo Spot Spot A - Long Stay Car Park, Western End

The car park has recently been extended and now stretches further out towards the taxiway and is also now very close to the approach path. When runway 33 is in use the area is good for getting shots as aircraft approach you taxiing out, some good head on shots or before they line up for take-off for those 90° side on shots. You can get shots as the aircraft arrive, approach shots in the morning and shots from behind as they touchdown.
When 15 is in use you can get similar shots as they taxi off of the runway or head on shots as they depart.
There is a small fence next to the area that can be worked around but I would recommend a set of small steps.

Photo Spot Spot B - Sheldon Country Park

The Park is at the end of Runway 15 and is accessable from the A45 Coventry Rd or the Village of Marston Green, Park near the Train Station.

Good views of landing aircraft on Runway 15 with 75mm lense, head on Views and Taxing Aircraft with 200mm

Take off on Runway 33 some distace off and longer lenses needed for decent photos

The NCP long term car park is best for a day's spotting but it's obviously not free. Plus side is you get no hassle! It's quiet compared to EGCC or, obviously, EGLL, but the best time for arrivals is early morning to catch to commuter traffic. If you want a full day's spotting, then the journey down to EGLL will be worth it.
