Glasgow Prestwick International Airport is the main Ryanair hub in Scotland. It serves just over 2.5 million passengers a year and handles over 60% of air freight in Scotland.

A multimillion pound plan to double the size of the departure lounge has been proposed. Prestwick has pledged to be ready and willing to handle the Airbus A380. A two storey building is being considered to replace the current arrivals and departure halls. One floor would be used for departures and the other for arrivals. It would also raise the amount of aircraft stands from 6 to 12. This process will take 18 months.

The airport has two runways, the largest (13/31) being 2,987 meters in length and the shorter (3/21) being 1,822 meters. Normally arrivals come in from the east and departures take off to the west, both use runway 31. But due to occasional weather conditions the opposite will be used, and arrivals will come in over the sea (its quite scary...!).

A sample of the upcoming movements for Glasgow Prestick.

We do not current have any movements for Glasgow Prestick Airport.

Photo Spot Spot A - The Mound

The best place to view all movements at PIK is here.
To access this spot, from the north, head south in the main direction of the terminal on the A79.
On passing the main airport roundabout, you will come to a 2nd roundabout. Head straight over (2nd exit), and continue along this road (Shawfarm Rd).
After passing Prestwick Flying Club on the left, take the next left onto Shaw Rd.
Continue on this minor road, and the mound becomes visible on the right hand side. Park sensibly and you shouldn't have any problems.
The main runway (13/31) is directly in front of the mound.

Photo Spot Spot B - A719 layby

I have stopped at this layby for around an hour once before, and found it good for arrivals on runway 31 when in use. As the road is on an incline, you have good views over most of the airfield. Binoculars will be needed for the ramp areas and parking stands.
Pretty easy to get to. If heading north on the A77, pretty much directly in line with the 31 approach, there is a turning to the right (A719).
Follow this for a very short time, and on the left is the layby.
