Disembark the DLR railway at the Royal Albert station and head towards the river, by the big office building. Here you can get a view of the apron and can easily see departures and arrivals from both runway ends. Photos are possible to take from this location. There are benches along the pathway.

When coming from the south, take the right just after the first bridge when coming from the south into the industrial area, then the first left. Follow the windy road under the main road and through the gates, then park in the large carpark on the left. Do not turn right and park on the dockside- it is private land and you will get clamped and they check regularly!

You will get close to 28 arrivals here, and departures turn onto the runway here so you have good side-on views. A long lens is not needed, a standard zoom will do. If you walk to the end of the dock it's close enough for a good blast of jet wash!

The police regularly come down and do a quick check, but I've never been bothered or moved on and quite often they'll hang out and watch the planes with you for a bit.
