Guide to Newcastle Airport (NCL / EGNT)

Newcastle Airport is located in Newcastle upon Tyne, about 6 miles (11 km) north-west of the city centre. In 2006 it was the tenth busiest airport in the United Kingdom.

It is one of the fastest growing regional airports, and in 2007 it gained its first scheduled long-haul flight, a daily Emirates service to Dubai.

The Airport has had a long battle on it's hands, the main one being gaining a flight to New York. American Airlines originally announced the route but pulled out due to high fuel prices.

The second is with former manager John Parkin, who recieved a £6 million bonus before leaving to join Leeds Bradford Airport, since then, the airport has tried to get the bonus off him.

Photo Spot Spot A - Inside car park

Go to the terminal, facing the dorrs, then, turn left til you see the car hire spot, you should get a view of the Eastern Airways planes and maybe a few pushing back.

(Note: The picture shown was added because the one I sent of the valid spot was rejected.)

Photo Spot Spot B - Outside of airport (Runway 07)

This works best when aircraft are landing on 07.

Go to Callerton Parkway Metro Station and go along the road past the pub. NOT THE ONE WITH THE ROAD-RAIL CROSSING. Follow it until you reach the approach lights, there, you should see a wooden gate, go throught it and there will be a small hill with a rusty petal gate resting against barbed wire, stand there and get your camera ready for some great shots.

Photo Spot Spot C - Outside Airport (Runway 25)

Best when aircraft are landing on 25.

Go along the road at the top of 25 and find the junction, park your car there and simply stand and wait for planes, you will see them coming from a way away on a clear day and is in use much more than 07.

The best place to go would be t the threshold of runway 25 just on the coach lane junction of the map.

The shot of the klm is definatly NOT taken from landside! The only way that view can be had is from within the terminal departure lounge!

EGNT is not the best for viewing aircraft on the ground, security are very much anti-spotter. Only locations valid on this page are at the end of both runways. If anyone parks on the frieght village road, they will be moved on. Just a word of warning guys.
