Finally finally! BAA ABZ got the green light to extend the main runway. Work starts in Mar & is supposed to be being carried out at night to avoid disruption to daytime ops. It's not the full length originally proposed...but it's a start!!

Sorry for not being on for a long time.
Have been in Qatar working, over there they have built a whole new airport in the time we have got some pegs and cones.
Anyway, landed back in Dyce the other day, and looking out the window at the pegs, markings, it looks like they are extending the taxiway as well as the runway, it also looks a good bit longer than 400ft.
Would they be doing a starter strip that wasn't as wide, so the main runway surface was full width, a starter strip of 100ft wide going out to the full permitted length plus taxiway to full length.
Surely it makes sense to do it all at once, moving all the lights now for 400ft then again in 20years time is Aberdeen Council type thinking.

I don't expect sense will happen though, 7000ft would allow a Continental / United 757 fly to New York then on to Houston (in our dreams) or Qatar Airways a A319 to Doha (like they used to Copenhagen).
That would be less folk going through Heathrow, and T5 isn't paid for.
