Was down at my Grandma's last night and I found some old pictures taken my Grandad from the mid-80s (1986-1988 judging by how old I look) so thought I'd share them here as I know some of you reminisce about those days:

(hoping the links work, flickr has changed since I last used it)

I do have some more better scans, where the motive is clearer, but if possible I'll upload these for screening to the plane-mad database. However, I'm not sure on the copyright issue as they were taken by my now deceased grandfather. Dan?

Nice one PHS. Can just visualise that BA rocket lining up and then rolling off on a very noisey and smokey departure! Happy days. Thanks to you and your grandfather.

Normally as long as you have permission from 'next of kin' your ok to upload

I would have thought if you have "inherited" them then they now belong to you. Great pics though.

Takes me back to the days when you would wait for ages and the only movement for an hour would be a 1-11, causing curses and grumbling. Nowadays I'd be up there like a shot if a 1-11 visited Manchester again. I never thought they would end up being rarer than a VC-10, or even a Tu-154!!!

Yep - I'm sure this is correct so we'll screen them no problem if they are uploaded.

Funny you should mention the smoke, one of the pics I didn't scan is the 1-11 leaving. It's quite small in the distance, but there's a plume of black smoke all the way back down the runway.

Water injection! A fine bit of fifties engineering that also made American bombers smoke like a Salford teenager.

Fred Dibnah should have done a programme on it, stood in his cap and boiler suit at the end of 24 where the brickworks was, fulminating over our steam powered British airliners.

Not MAN but not worth starting a new thread... Torquay Aircraft Museum October 1986. Ignore the little me and my older brother. Look at the cockpit, you could actually just go and wander round inside the things back then. Got some other photos of me inside this and some other helicopters. H&S would have a epi these days.

Great memories, thanks for uploading... can I see an Aviogenex Tu-134 behind the Ryanair 1-11? - always a favourite of mine.

Yeh, belters those graphs.
I didn't even realise Orion had the 73 with the engine upgrade! Really liked their colours too.

Nice one PHS.
