The month is August 1975 and was indeed the Spotters Guide, this months colour was BLUE I think... I know July was PURPLE..!

I bet it was about 10p aswell,bought from the turnstile at the bottom of the red steps,where I saw my first Dan Air 748(City of Berne) turning full circle to taxi out,it was directly left as you got to the top of the steps,I was with my dad and the noise was amazing I ran all the way to the top to see what it was,dad couldn't of give a flying shite haha.

Yep I'd have said around 1979, the BA Tridents giving it away for me. Look at the BA 1-11's to Edinburgh and Glasgow, used to come screaming over our house as we lived north of the airport. Didn't matter how loud the Two Ronnies were on, you could always hear them.

Dan Air operated Avro 748s first one i saw was G-ARAY I think , great aircraft built at Woodford , lok them up on youtube ,

A Tristar with a spare engine - were the RB.211s so unreliable? ;-)
I would say we are in 1976 - the first year with Lufthansa A300 operation in to LHR. East African Airways stopped operation in early 1977.

I am more of a 60s man myself.
when in those days we had a huge expansion of IT operaters at gatwick (wardair,TIA, TCA,)and heathrow we had the rare Panam B727s.... Air france caravelles and convair 990 (smokey joes)from swissair. and Panam DC8s B707s. and PIA B720s.
ahh those was the days !
I am more of a 60s man myself.
