Hey guys, I'm looking into paying BHX a visit sometime in the next couple of months, April/May perhaps. Just wondered if anyone knows much about the place and could help out with a few questions I have? I'm looking at going on a Sunday since it seems like that's when the PIA leaves earlier in the evening.

Firstly, can anyone help out with the schedule times of the following BHX movements?

Air India 777 (days/times- their website was hopeless)

Uzbekistan Airline (believe it's a 757 on Sundays, arriving at 18.25 and departing at 19.25?)

Turkmenistan Airlines (believe it's also a 757 on Sundays, arriving at 15.10 and departing at 16.40?)

I've also heard mention around of an 'annual' Corsair 747-400 flight, when does this come in?

As for spotting locations, I've got my eye on the long stay car park spot near the threshold for Runway 33, would I be okay to just walk into the car park and spot, no problems with security etc? Also, the Plane Mad guide suggests I'll need a stepladder, will I be able to get away without this (I'm 5'11") as it would be very difficult for me to bring one.

Lastly, has anyone been to the Aviation Experience place? Is it any good?

every day

this is the Toronto-Birmingham-amritsar-Delhi service AI 188

Ai 188 arrives from Toronto at 11:30am
and AI 188 departs at 1:30
to Amritsar
(same flight codes)

the flight from amritsar is at night so wont be any use

but note the arrival is often late

T5412 departs to Ashkhabad at 22:00

Uzbekistan from my knowledge and also the checks i have made they no longer fly from BHX but check somewhere else just in case

aviation experience i have been and it is very good for pictures as it is located in the roof of the terminal building and looks out on to the runway 15/33

the store is also good for models and magazines

i reccomend a visit

You don't need a stepladder their is some small holes made in the fencing their is not an security problems

Thanks for all your info jake_bhx, I'd heard something about Uzbekistan stopping but when I looked it up I found a website listing their schedule to BHX for 2008, odd! I'll take your word for it though. Any chance you could post your photos from the Aviation Experience?

That flight, does it run at these times on a Sunday?

Also, can you confirm if it's okay to spot in the long stay car park near the threshold for Runway 33 without actually parking? I'll be on foot coming from the train station so will I be able to spot there without actually parking?

starmoaner if runway 15 is in use get off at BHX and get local train 1 stop back to Marston Green there is a footpath round end of runway at that end!! i go past there a lot whilst driving my trains that way at weekend

Its flat too so even if 3 is in use you'll get some good video of take offs and landings too

Each time i have been to the long stay car park i have always parked so im not sure

i work at bhx so if you have to park i can get you into the car park with my parking pass if you want me to so you dont have to park

im off work until next week so ill find out when i get back to work

The Turkmenistan flight operates on monday, wednesday, thursday, friday and sunday

sorry its actually monday wednesday friday and sunday

Thanks Jake, a friend who visited BHX last year says he just went into the car park and had no trouble having to park etc.

Purely out of interest what do you do (workwise) at BHX? I'm a CSA up at MAN
