General Discussion Forum | My first A380 flight!

Flew in to LHR today on the EK1 flight from Dubai. What a gorgeous aircraft she is, we had E6-EDR and the difference between her and the 777 which flew us out there was amazing! Take off was smooth as silk from DXB, and cruising was unbelievably quiet. The weather at just a touch under 40,000ft made for a very smooth flight- until we hit the channel, when swirly cloud and strong winds made for an 'interesting' approach.
We were put in a holding pattern and the A380 seemed very wobbly a slower speeds in the turbulent air over Central London (sick bags were in use by several passengers) but the views at 2,000 ft or so were great!
And so came time to land, coming in on 27L I got some shots of Concorde from the air before we as good as touched down...only to throttle back up and tear away from the runway at literally the last possible second (I swear the main gear had already hit the runway)! As we climbed for another circuit the 1st Officer announced that weather was the culprit for the 'go around' and so in we came for a second attempt. The tail camera showed that we we approaching off line by some way to get into the wind, and this made for a hairy touch down where the right wing dipped violently and she struggled to straighten up. The flight crew did a great job to tidy up the landing, and several hundred passengers gave a collective sigh of relief...
What a flight to remember!
