yes, the Daily Heil does make a drama of these things but it's a genuine concern. Boeing reputedly used an off-the-shelf component in the avionics that has a vulnerability, and could potentially be attacked by malware of some sort.

As the 787 is more advanced and networked than any previous civil aircraft the full story would be interesting.

After reading this I'm not even going to bother reading anything else on the Daily Fail that's aviation related

In defence of the Daily Fail, they do make the point that it's an optical illusion. I rather doubt that they're a mile or more apart though, more like 1 -2,000 feet as they both look like 777's to me.

Tthey have this fly by wire technology ( not the only one these days that uses it either) which in my view is a glorified version of a pc game and sorry to say i dont think its the way to go to fly a plane as there is no feelings of the control whatsoever.
Most pilots fly by instinct and feelings and not by electric signals.
yes i gather there are many backups but !

There is a version of force feedback integrated into the controls. Pilots who helped design the systems for the Lockheed F-16, Airbus A320 and Boeing 777 insisted that it was necessary to prevent pilot induced oscillation, which is a deadly phenomenon where only visual references are available.

Basically over-pulling or pushing the stick so the movable surfaces 'flap' as the pilot tries to compensate.

It has to be a two-way system with feedback from the flying surfaces or the pilot just doesn't have sufficient control.
