Liverpool John Lennon Airport Forum | KLM to increase frequency

I was sent a promo email this morning that, amongst other things, mentioned that KL is to add a fourth daily flight from Liverpool. No dates given but the commitment to an extra flight soon is there.

I wonder how their prices compare to Easyjet? Unless KLM are going more for the business sector?

EZY can't offer the kind of connections KLM can. Besides which, there isn't any shuttle to London so it's wide open for them to get in there and work it with the Fokker.
It's the right size plane for the job to offer the frequency the business traveller wants, and doesn't seem to affect their Manchester operations. Our tax schemes in the UK actually make it harder for shuttle flights to work as you pay two lots of flight tax connecting at LHR, but only one shorthaul tax going to Amsterdam or Paris. Utterly stupid.

If you want to fly to Amsterdam don't bother going on KLM, that's not really the type of market they are aiming for. Not sure what the exact numbers are but I think on the MAN-AMS sector about 75% of passengers connect onto other flights. The same goes for Air France and Finnair.

KLM makes virtue of the fact that they connect a lot more UK airports to Amsterdam than BA do to either Heathrow or Gatwick, therefore making them a good choice for the regional business traveller to use them for onward journeys. easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 tend to go after the "cost conscious" traveller who may or may not choose to travel, though easyJet has a pretty robust schedule for business travel out of Gatwick and Jet2 having the advantage of the Jet2 Holiday offshoot to help fill up aircraft.

Route currently not profitable - loads around 60% but need 70%, 79% of passengers are connecting and it's 25% business/75% leisure for a passenger breakdown

Not weird at all, KL see the potential and are prepared to invest in the route. That 25% connecting figure is interesting as that means there is potential there to grow the numbers transitting through Amsterdam, which must be why they are planning to increase flights.
KLM also are not that expensive if you book through Expedia or someone like that.
