I think thats a good idea to be honest, Sussex is nowhere near London in the first place.

There is a possibility there to lose some revenue, simply by removing the word, London. And it isn't exactly far from London. People who are not in the know of London's layout and airports may just opt for LHR purely because it has London written in it's name.

I find it a bit strange. Gatwick has always got more pax thanks to the London pre-name, as when you search flights, you can select 'LON-all airports', bringing LGW into the mix.
Also, its one of the closer London airports, and easy to get to. Basically, Oxford is MILES!!! away from London, yet it has the London pre-name, but LGW wont.

I hope this does go well for them though. LGW has had a tough time of late, with most of its US flights gone, and a 2nd runway blocked.
