Hi all,

Does anyone know if the A380 usually uses the same landing runway in use, i.e. say they were on 27L, would the A380 use this runway or does it sometimes use 27R?

Hope that makes sense, might make a trip up on Sunday morning as I see they are due to be on 27L.

Hope you don't mind a little bit of thread hijacking but is the A380 always on time arriving at LHR.

I think it does land on the runways in use as when it came in for testing it landed on 27L & when I was there Tuesday it departed over the other side of the airfield along with the other departing aircraft.

HTH.

Scott.

Problem is that A380 arriving time is 05.55 And as you can read here: http://www.heathrowairport.com/assets/B2CPortal/Static%20Files/Alt%20_prog_08.final.pdf

Between 6am and 7am runway alternation is only a trial and ATC may need to land aircraft on both runways.

No problem Scott, we're all here for the same reason.

Looks like I'll just have to take my chances!

A bit late now but I found (much to my annoyance as the South African, Cathay B744 and Royal Brunei came in on 27R and I was at Myrtle with the BA flights!) they used both runways for about an hour ealy morning! However, you can alays go to this field I went to if you wanna make sure as it is in between both runways and a 200mm lens should suffice.

unless it has changed A380 always uses 27L or 09R due to taxiway restrictions due to work not yet completed! must use same runway for take off too

Came in on 27R on Saturday morning and also departed from 27R same day!

Where about is this field (only got a 300mm lens), I might have a look at it, would have come in handy for sat as they changed the runways early about 1 instead of 3, & a few people at Myrtle were annoyed, still thats the joy of LHR.

Yeah I was one of them!!! Missed a QF744 because of that! Did the same on Friday too, got to Myrtle Ave at about 1-15pm and at 2-15 they changed. Had a wander and found a nice little field.

Go back down the road from Myrtle Ave towards Hatton Cross and follow the A30 past the station. I can't remember exactly but I think its the BA Cargo centre or something that's on your left. Still on the A30 you should see a small roundabout on the Eastern perimiter road (not to be confused with the roundabouts the 285 bus uses!) and a barrier to one of the staff car parks. On your left is a padlocked wooden gate. Jump over that, through the gap at the next gate and walk through the long grass into the right hand corner, through the gap and into another field of long grass. I stayed on the left hand side, level with the end of the building behind and so I could see some kind of aerial (or something) through the trees in the direction the aircraft were coming from. The field is completely surrounded by thick bushes so I spent about 7 hours there in total and saw no-one the whole time. If you see a heron you've definitely found it! When a few landed on 27L I had the same view as those on 27R.

Not sure how to get google maps into this website but hope this link works! You should be in the middle of the map when finished.

Right, the link works if you copy the whole lot of numbers/letter and paste. Just seen the satellite version and there's a building site type thing by the roundabout. That isn't there any more, but it's where the gate is. Also, I've just noticed that if you're brave enough to walk through the barrier there seems to be a footpath further up but obviously the image was taken a while back and I don't know if it's still there. The grass is quite long now where as it looks short on google maps.
