Hi All - I took my 2 year old to view planes on the grass area today. Last week the planes were taking of and going over the grass area, this week however they were taking off in the opposite direction, so you could not get a close view. Both times were around 1-2pm before the 3pm switchover. Looking at the runway alteration guide on this site, pre 3pm 27L will be used for take off - but how can i work out which way?

ok, so what direction do i need to look for? Also, when 27L is used for landing, do the planes always fly over myrtle avenue green area, or is that dependant on wind direction too?

They always depart over Mytrle Ave (09R), they alternate when landing between Mrytle Ave (27L) and the Northern runway (27R). Planes take off INTO the wind (over 5 knots). So if the wind is coming from the east and they will use 09R.
I'm sure the airport guise explains this somewhere. You can also find other places to stand/watch the planes.
