I was coming back from Heathrow Airport and I saw a Thai Airways International Boeing 747-400ER landing towards Runway 27R and so I viewed it from the left side of the car and instead of landing, it ascended to about 10,000 FT and made a 30 Degree(Banking Degree) Right turn towards Luton Airport so i got my camera and started filming! Did anyone see this or was it just a normal procedure for a Jumbo-Jet Crosswind landing? (there was a quite a bit of a breeze!)

I will post a video but it is very unclear as the aircraft was quite far away and I was on the M4! This event took place at approximately 18:15PM

Wow! That is a good spot. I wonder if it was a diversion?

Thanks Airbus A300! Yeah must have been a diversion because It was touching down as normal and then banked to the right towards Luton so it puzzled me,

I thought "if it was an emergency landing, surely the aircraft would have landed at Heathrow???
Not to mention the 747 was about 1/2 a mile from LHR so maybe the pilot landed at the wrong airport.

Apart from the mention of 10,000 ft this just sounds like a standard missed appr oach for 27R. I'm confused.

well the plane was very near to 27R so it may have been to high for landing. Basically the aircraft was on the normal route to runway 27R but about 1/2 a mile from the runway the crew decided to ascend to about 10,000FT rather then continue to the runway and then the jet banked 30%u02DA to the right and headed towards Luton!

I did capture it on tape! I will post if you want!

that must've been it, it did look a tad bit high on approach.

do you think it must've turned back and joined the flight path again? because I never saw another Thai Airways 747-400 that same day
