Hi I am planning a trip to Heathrow in April and I was wondering what day is best, saturday or sunday.I went last year in August on a sunday and it was great.Cheers Jay.
Both days are pretty similar, however if you are travelling by train down the west coast mainline then Saturday has the edge as the first trains on saturday from Manchester - London are a lot earlier than they are on sunday. The main thing to bear in mind with Heathrow is check what the runway rotations are before you set off. The runways are rotated at 3pm every afternoon and also on a weekly basis eg. one week they will land on 27R until 3pm and then land on 27L after 3pm and vice versa with takeoffs the next week they will land on 27L until 3pm and then land on 27R after 3. I take it you know about the famous 'Myrtle Avenue' location for landings on 27L. Located just slightly past the BP petrol garage at Hatton Cross when 27L is in use for landing it is absolutely brilliant the big birds fly right past you at less than 50 feet!
Cheers bigjames,i do know myrtle ave.i drove last time and will again,i took up position for the day at the little viewing stand in front of the old visitors centre.cheers for the info, jay.
A lot of people envy me because at 6ft 8in I am one of the only people who can see over the steel part of the fence on Bath Road to get some photos of movements on 27R! Still, the visitors centre is good if the heavens open though! At least if you take a decent pair of binoculars you can read off the reg's etc!
I gathered shed loads last time I was there, and
FR24 helped me get the ones I couldn't see taking off in the distance.Plus it's only a fiver to park, and theres Mcd's for food and a slash.
