Working in co-operation with British Airways it plans to concentrate services through the Singapore hub effectively closing down its through - routes to London via Bangkok and Hong Kong. BA will also reduce through routes to Australia as part of the shake-up

The changes will come into operation in early 2012 and enable it to retire four ageing Boeing 747 jets

A statement said: “Qantas will continue Airbus A380 services from Melbourne and Sydney to London via Singapore, as well as constructing a new premium lounge at Changi International Airport. British Airways will upgrade its London - Singapore - Sydney service from a Boeing 777 to a larger Boeing 747”.

Makes sense really. Operating from both ends of the Kangaroo route puts them at a disadvantage against the numerous airlines who hub somewhere in the middle. Will be a shame to see less QF metal at LHR but business is business. Only question I have is why SIN? Ok, SQ use the A380s so maintenance may be good, but HKG is CX's hub and therefore OneWorld ties. Plus it's on the Great Circle route and therefore a shorter routing. Anyone in the know or worked it out?

On the subject of Qantas, I have a question to ask about their last ever QF29/QF30 operation on Friday 23rd March. On the Qantas timetable, QF29 is down to land as normal at 13:30 that afternoon. However, if you try and book QF30 for that evening they put you on a BA 744 to Hong Kong and apparently QF30 is an A330 that starts from HKG? I am therefore wondering how that 744 is going to get back to Australia if it is not doing its normal QF30 flight?

I am probably miles out but Qantas do sometimes do a one-off charter from Manchester - Sydney about late March/May time. Could it be that the aircraft is heading empty up to MAN to pick up some passengers there?

Have you checked that all the usual QF flights are arriving?
