Hey all yesterday while I was waiting for the 124, I was capturing quite alot of heavys including PIA, Transat and a Nice Monarch A330. But what I want to say is yesterday instead of the usual A380 Emirates lunchtime service, a 777 came in and as well as a few dissapointed faces down the Airport Hotel, they and I were also wondering why so does anyone know why this is happening, all input welcome! thanks. L.G.

Last minute tech issue. The A380 was scheduled right until 4 hours until departure, then the B773 was scheduled.
Happens every now and then.

This was a edited picture of the 777-300 emirates on the 9th August which came in instead of the A380 which can be found on my Flickr.

In time i reckon we will lose the A380 as the PAX figures are not strong enough to sustain it.

We will not loose the A380. Yields are more than strong enough to support it. remember, its not just how many you pack in, its how much you get money wise off them. Its no coincidence they had to use the B773 with the higher F class seating to sub the A380 on the 9th, rather than use a bog standard 2 class or lower F capacity aircraft.....
People seem to be worrying without knowing the full story.

And as ive stated in the NVR thread, cargo capacity is now UP compared to 2010 before we got the A380.
There seems to be a trend at the moment where the CAA stats are taken as a bible and are the 'be all and end all', when in fact they only take a small proportion of the bigger picture into consideration.

One beauty point of the A380 is that when there is room, it can actually lift dense cargo. Below decks it's a moneymaker even if there are empty seats. Heavy cargo items like oil industry equipment.
Give it a month or so and the 500 loads will be back as people start moving around again, especially students and those travelling down under. The EK19/20 will be of more concern as that gets booked solid and is occasionally overbooked.
This recession isn't helping either. However a 777 is just inadequate on the EK17/18 now and that means A380. No way will Emirates retrench the route. If anything I could see them wanting to introduce a 5pm departure or a crack of dawn flight on the A350

I dont think the A380 is going yet, as world_rep and steve platt have already made good points I thought I may add that the A380 has basically made manchester really. Nearly all the crowds come to Manchester just to see the A380 thats why you usually see when between it arriving and departing loads of crowds at both the airport hotel and the aviation viewing park (or rvp). Thats just my point but the only way to see about is what happens in the near future and what emirates decide to do

It's not the number of aviation enthusiasts that want to see an aircraft that tells if the aircraft type is a success or a failure. It's how well it performs its task. The A380 was designed to haul a lot of passengers, and then I mean a lot, and their baggage for airlines that have one or two large hubs. The A380 is not designed to haul passengers and a lot of cargo. All this was known to the airlines when they ordered the aircraft, and that was also why the airlines, like Emirates, ordered exactly this aircraft type.

I recently flew on 3 EK A380 flights. MAN-DXB, DXB-NRT and KUL-DXB.
I was in business class and guess which flight had the healthiest loads in that cabin? Yup, the MAN flight.
After chatting to the pursers on each leg there is no way that MAN will be downgraded on the EK17/18 route, it is one of their strongest performers. Something that has been said many times on here by many people who should know.

F and J class are serious money earners and so is the A380, so much that people will tavel from BHX
and NCL areas just to travel on it

If you take a wander in the T1 concourse and linger for a while when EK18 is checking in, there's usually no shortage of customers for the F & J desks.
