Site Related Forum | New Update

The latest site update has just gone live with a few new features:

1) Screeners Choice - The screeners can now select their favourite photos to get added to the "screeners choice" section. These are designed to stand out a little more in the photo search pages and now feature in quite large format on the new front page.
The front page now features more photos, there are currently 5 screeners choice photos to match the 5 different time periods on the top rated photos below, this is likely to increase on both banners to 8 in the near future. The top photographers now display the thumbnail of their most viewed picture of the last week and all figure now relate to the last week.

2) Forum Airport / Airline codes - Users of a certain other forum may have seen something similar to this but when someone posts an airline / airport code within their forum post anyone viewing the post can now roll over the code to find out which airline / airport it belongs to. Codes must be typed in upper case to be picked up. This may require some tweaking so if you see any items that show up that shouldn't or code that don't show please let me know.

3) Homepage - Previously if you were logged in to the site the "Home" page was replaced by the My Plane Mad page and there was no way of seeing the "Home " page while logged in. You can now see both when logged in. In addition there is now an option within My Plane Mad -> My Account -> Account settings to set which of these pages appear as your homepage. Best way of explaining this is below:

http://www.plane-mad.com/index.html - will always show the "Home" page
http://www.plane-mad.com/my-planemad/ - will always show the My Plane Mad page
http://www.plane-mad.com - will show either the "Home" page or My Plane Mad page depending on which you have set in your account settings. Default is "Home".

This will be particularly useful for anyone who uses the "remember me on this computer" box when logging in.

4) Latest added photos now have page numbers on the My Plane Mad page. Click the page number and the next page will scroll to you similar to the banners on the front page. Designed so you can view all the added photos quickly rather than just a sample as before.

i use Firefox 4 and its fine.

scratch that. mine was fine earlier but now i see same as Hitchings29.

Very strange, I can't replicate the problem on either browser, just tried Chrome 10, Firefox 3 and Firefox 4 but no problem on any of them.


This is even more weird as nothing has changed since it was uploaded!

I need more time to look into this, should be at MAN tomorrow so may not get chance till the weekend. In the meantime, first try a full refresh of shift refresh to make sure the latest versions of all files are downloaded. Let me know if you still have the problems and if anyone else is experiencing the same please let me know your browser and version.

Had to hit refresh for it to work initially. Methinks the problem with Chrome was cache related. It might have been using outdated elements in the cache to render the page, so doing an F5 or refresh cured it with a fresh load of the site.

yea its sort of hit and miss with my homepage - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but normally refreshing it can cure it!

Just ran a test and removed all the new styles that were added in the updated style sheet and it turned out exactly like your screenshot, so it appears indeed to be a caching problem that doing one full refresh (hold down shift while pressing refresh) should clear.

Its very strange how its hit and miss though as once its got the updated file it should work all the time then. I may be out all day again tomorrow (sunny weather and new camera couldn't have happened at a worse time!) but should have time on Sunday to look deeper into it. If you could just post an update tomorrow evening on what your finding then, that would be great.

Worked fine for me ever since I ran CrapCleaner and emptied the Chrome cache. Not one wobbly load.

The 3 sections on the homepage (screeners choice, top rated banner and photographers stats) are updated once every 3 hours so there may be delay in some data. Theres a lot of processing / database work to generate it so I cache it every 3 hours - may look at making that slightly more often if its quite noticable.
