The move across to the new server is ready to go. I'll be acrrying out some final tests this evening and then the move will happen between 7-8pm tomorrow evening (Tue 1st November) UK / GMT time.

Some notes about the move:

- The site will need to be offline while I move the database across. I have this all setup and my tests have been taking no more than 5 minutes to complete this process, so we shouldn't be offline more than this. You will see a message explaining this while it happens.
- The move will not happen instantly for everyone. In theory it can take up to 72 hours before some people see the new server when typing in plane-mad.com. However I remember last time it took up to 2 weeks for some to see the change.
- To stop the problems from last time the old server will still be available with all the very latest updates online. It may be a little slower than now though as the connection to the database will be external and will probably slow things down a little.
- The old sever will contain a message at the top of each page so you can tell which server you are seeing.
- The only other problem I may anticipate after tomorrow is the old server showing incorrect times on forum posts etc, I hope to fix this quite quickly after the site gets back online though.

If you notice any problems with the site tomorrow / beyond then please do let me know via the usual, contact form, replying here or PM.

The server move is now complete, apart from my computer crashing half way through moving the database over it went quite smoothly!
You will still be viewing the old server while you see the yellow box at the top of each page but over the next few hours you should see this change over.

I don't seem to be getting the daily newsletters any more. I've checked the settings on my account and it says that I am still down to receive them. Could this be something to do with switching servers? Also, the Facebook link seems to have gone into hibernation, i.e. the notifications of new photos, updated airport guides, etc., no longer seem to be getting posted.

...also, if you click on someone's 'profile' icon where it appears above their post(s) on the Forum page(s), it takes you straight back to the 'Home' page, i.e. instead of to their profile.

Problems one at a time:

I don't seem to be getting the daily newsletters any more.

Checked this and they appear to be working fine - I have been receiving them regularly. Do you have an anti-spam program on your mail server, likely that they may be being picked up as spam after a server move.
If anyone else either is - or isn't receiving the mails please let me know.

This should now be fixed - I'll screen some pics soon and test this.

Also should now be fixed.

Also fixed an issue with the edited forum post dates appearing wrong.

If anyone notices other issues please let me know.

I've checked my spam/junk mail folder and they're definitely not in there either. Do you think it might be worth unsubscribing and then re-registering?

Have you checked your anti-spam filters? When I first starting the mails from the new server they were being added to the spam folder in gmail so it may be your mail is thinking of it as spam.

In gmail you can see the spam folder by going to mail settings (top right settings icon) then click the labels tab and click show next to spam, once you've selected a few e-mails and told gmail its not spam they seem to get the message and it comes in to your normal inbox.

OK before I post this just investigated further and it seems that hotmail and a few other providers are rejecting th e-mails, I'll investigate and post an update later.

Dan, I've checked the filter settings on my Hotmail (@live.co.uk) account and they are set to 'standard' - which means there is no reason why the P-M daily/weekly newsletters shouldn't be getting through. I've also checked my spam folder (again) and there's still no sign of them in there.

Sorry should have made it more clear in the last post, did some investigating this morning and hotmail plus a few other hosts are rejecting all e-mails from our new servers (gmail and most others should be working fine).

I've just switched the mail list back to use our old server for the time being so all mail lists should be back to normal from tomorrow morning. The screening e-mails plus other misc e-mails (PM notification etc) I hope to get sorted tomorrow, so for any pics please use your "awaiting screening / awaiting response" pages for the time being.

Will post tomorrow to confirm things are back to normal.

Thanks for the update, Dan. You're doing a great job and a few teething problems are only to be expected.

Yeah site move is a big change and a big step up really, learning a few things from it.

The e-mails should all be working now, the daily mail list was sent this morning (although a little delayed) but should be back to usual time tomorrow.

Yep, I can confirm that the newsletters have started coming through again. happy
Quote | Reply | Top of Page
Dan, I don't know if it's related to this bit the 'Views' counter doesn't appear to be counting.

...and the newsletters seem to have gone AWOL again.

Dan, this still doesn't appear to have been fixed. Is it on your 'to do' list?

Dan, I know it's not a priority, but do you have any idea when you might get round to updating the photo acceptance ratios?
Quote | Reply | Top of Page
Maybe over the next couple of weeks, although I have just come back from holiday with 2,600 pictures to sort through so that may distract me. Hope to get some website stuff done this weekend so may get a chance then.
Quote | Reply | Top of Page
Photo acceptance ratios now use the new upload system as well as the old system numbers, just put this update live now.
