Site Related Forum | PLEASE READ - Sponsored walk in memory of Dan Hill
Starting at 10.00 a.m., the walk is in aid of Cancer Research and will take place between East Midlands Airport and King Lear's Lake at Watermead Park, Thurmaston (on the northern outskirts of Leicester) - a distance of approximately 14 miles. Anyone not wishing to do the full walk is welcome to join in the final lap of King Lear's Lake and/or to attend the BBQ which is being held in Watermead Park from 4.00 p.m. onwards. Transport will be available to East Midlands Airport from Thurmaston at 9.00 a.m., and will also be available for anyone not able to complete the walk. The entry fee is £5.00.
Now for the (most) important bit! Anyone wishing to donate in memory of Dan can do so via justgiving.com/daniel-j-hill...so, come on guys and gals, it's time to dig deep in our pockets and pay a fitting tribute to the man who, single-handedly, built this fantastic website of ours from scratch.
Finally, I know it's relatively short notice, but it would be great if some of us could get down to Leicester and at least show our faces at the BBQ - all being well, I hope to be there from 4.00 p.m. Please let me know if you think that you might be able to attend.
As it stands I see there are 3 donations (including mine), it'd be great to see a few more on there. I know times are tough for everyone at the moment but if you could sacrifice that night out in the pub and donate your beer money to such a worthy cause then it'd do Dan proud. He spent a lot of time (and money) making Plane-Mad what it is today and he offered the site free of charge to everyone, so a few quid is a small price to ask imo.
Good luck to all those making the walk
Cmon people, dig deep... Even £5 or so would go a long way
Quoting Sam-at-MAN, 59566">previous post4 donations coming to £85 at the moment on http://www.justgiving.com/daniel-j-hill/eurl.axd/remember/15874/Daniel-Hill
Still only four donations totalling a miserly £85.00.

As Sam said in his previous post, c'mon people, dig deep...and, if nothing else, please bear in mind that, if it wasn't for Dan, Plane-Mad wouldn't exist and we'd have to go elsewhere to pursue our hobby. If you genuinely can't afford to contribute, then so be it. Otherwise, there's no excuse.

In addition to the time and effort Dan put into making this site (I wouldn't like to even guess at how long it took him!), he also spent a considerable amount of money on software and hosting costs. As it stands we have a number of people donating monthly to keep the site online, Dan did this all by himself for years, in addition to paying for his flight training.
Times are tough but I'm sure you can spare £5 or so...

keep it coming
So guys, it's not too late. We've raised £300 so far, which is great, but surely we can do better than that! £500 sounds like a nice round number to me! I know that Sam and I are starting to sound like a scratched record, but please donate whatever you can afford and, with your help, we (the plane-mad community) can, hopefully, make a really worthwhile contribution to Cancer Research in memory of Dan.
Quoting Baltimore, from a previous postI have just returned home from Leicester, where I had the pleasure of meeting the 20 or so people who took part in today's sponsored walk. Various members of Dan's immediate family were there, including his brother (Simon), his mum and dad and his aunt and uncle. The fact that all of them continue to put on such a brave face despite what they've been through over the past few months never ceases to amaze me. Not only that but, every time I see them, they insist on going out of their way to tell me how much they appreciate the fact that we have stepped in to secure the future of plane-mad and how they see the website acting as a lasting tribute to Dan. It's impossible not to feel both humbled and inspired at the same time.

I'm guessing that quite a few people were on holiday when I posted this last weekend...so I've taken the liberty of doing so again in the hope of being able to pick up one or two more donations:
