Trip Reports Forum | ABZ - CDG - TUN / TUN - CDG - ABZ
3 weeks ago I left from ABZ on a 0600 hours departure, Paris bound. First time flying with Air France and my first time in Charles De Gaulle airport. Anyway, due to icy/snowy weather at ABZ we were 23 minutes delayed due to the aircraft being de-iced. This also being my first time on an EMB 190. We were in the sky at about 0632 hours.
Fair to say this plane is very small and very uncomfortable. We were on our way to Tunisia, for a holiday with my sister and my niece, but also to see her husband-to-be, as he works over there for Baker Hughes. My sister had booked herself and her daughter to fly a long time before I had, in business class, but when I was booked later, I didn't have business class seats, so I had to sit with a snoring old man, which added to my frustration. I was happy to be going away, just not to the fact that I had to be sat in this seat for about 2 hours, in a tiny aircraft with a snoring man next to me, anyhow. The trip was quite pleasant, just a few odd bumps due to turbulence, to be expected. We arrived at about 0907 hours (Paris time).
Me, being used to small airports, was expecting a quick turn off and then park up, but no, what I didn't realise was the size of this airport. As we were on our way, I spotted the Concorde monument, something I had always wanted to see, so that perked me up. We finally parked up after dragging on and on, collected hand baggage and with delight, disembarked the aircraft.
We made our way in, with my annoying little niece, dropping her little suitcase in a screaming match every 5 minutes, to find we had to get a bus to the terminal, I didn't know this before-hand, but my sister did. I was in one of those moods where I really couldn't be bothered. On the bus then, to the terminal then off.
3 hours we needed to wait, so as you do, the well earned cash came out the pocket for food, luxuries etc. Come on though, 40 Euros for paninis and crisps??? Bought some perfumes for my Mum, and an ashtray. So we made our way to the gate for our flight to Tunisia, waited about an hour before being able to board and we were off again, up, up and away.
This flight was so much better. First of all, the cabin crew were the nicest I have ever met, they let me sit in business class, even though I had payed economy, so I got to sit with my sister and niece. The food was so much better than the 2 pain au chocolat's we were given from ABZ to CDG, even though it was salmon which I don't like, it looked a lot more appetising. Oh, the seat was pretty comfy too.
We arrived in Tunis Carthage International. Golly gosh.... on our way in ciggy butts in the walkway, beggars, but didn't put me off. A long wait at Passport Control, then through to collect our bags, but before hand, we took use of the duty free. Stocked up on some vodka, and cigarettes and some Vueve Cliquot. My sister met her partner, and off we went to the Golden Tulip Hotel Carthage.
Had a lovely 8 days there, warm weather and nice food.
Then sadly it was time to fly home again.
bringing back a lovely victorinox pocket knife (huntsman).
Well, we rushed in to the departure area and underneath a no-smoking sign was a police officer....Smoking. haha. Me being a smoker, hadn't had time to have a cigarette before getting to the airport, so with a slight bit of hesitation to smoke in the airport, I lit up....
BUT uh oh...
last call for the remaining 3 passengers for the CDG flight...that was us.
Run, run. run. we made it. On the plane and oh me they ain't have speedy in getting that plane off the runway. bang on time.
A nice breakfast was given to us, and again the cabin crew allowed me to sit with my family in business class. Fresh orange juice, coffee, apple puree, bread and cheese, jam, breakfast bar and fruit amongst other lovely things. it was just what i needed to fill my stomach. The flight was very pleasant and we arrived in CDG on time.
another 3 hour wait, by this time, I just couldn't wait to get home, even if it was cold wet Aberdeen, home to the sheep.
;)
another 40 odd euros for food, definitely not worth it.... picked up a nice new hugo boss aftershave and some french chocolate. Then finally, time to board, off we popped and then on to the plane. Another very uncomfortable journey, on a small plane, next to a man I did not know.
We began to descend into Aberdeen, and I spoke to the man next to me. I asked him why we came out over the sea a bit, as he looked quite intelligent. The answer he gave me was pretty high class, so then I asked him where he worked....I was sitting next to a Pilot. woo! He worked for BMI and flew these planes, and we had a good chat, which made me want to stay on the plane haha!
Anyway, collected our baggage and left for home. Raining, shock!!! not.
next time I fly will be to Tenerife South with Jet2, unless anything pops up before October.
Until then, see you soon and thanks for reading.
